The Thanksgiving Lunch was a treat! Thanks to all of you who brought food and joined us for this fantastic meal.

We've Landed a Jewel

I have to share a story that I heard recently about our president, Dr. Johnson. I have often heard him say that when he came to JCC he quickly realized that he had "landed a jewel". Well, I think JCC has landed a jewel in return. It was just a simple act of kindness, but the story has traveled quickly. It was picture day at the JCC Child Development Center recently and there was one child, a little boy who came prepared for pictures wearing a tie. He was complimented on his sharp looks that day and his reply was that he would like to be the president of this college. Someone called Beverly Gibson to share the cute story, and Beverly shared the story with Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson stopped what he was doing and he paid the small child who wanted to be the president of this college a visit to wish him well. It was just a small act of kindness, but speaks millions about the character of our president Dr. Johnson. Thank you Dr. Johnson for recognizing this small child and his ambitions. What you did could make a huge impact in his life. We are glad to have landed a jewel in you!

1) Vic McCormick and the Social Committee will be celebrating with our very own JCC Veterans and inviting you to celebrate too on the 10th of November. Please look for his e-mail with all the details.



2) Join us for a Thanksgiving lunch on the 24th of November! 11:30 - 1:30 in the Tart lobby. Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert; turkey and ham will be provided.



3) The Staff Association will be hosting a silent auction on December 3rd in the Tart lobby. Please bring any donations you have for the auction to Carrol Warren's office in Wilson C1080 - or call her at extension 2075 and she'll come pick up your donation.

Oak Tree Planting

We were able to honor our promise to dedicate and plant a Live Oak tree to honor our recently retired president Dr. Reichard. The Staff would like to graciously thank Lin Frye, Director of the Arboretum and Landscape Gardening Program , Danny Hensley, Landscape Gardening Instructor, Minda Daughtry, Arboretum Assistant and part-time LSG Instructor, Jordan Astoske, Arboretum Gardener, Jason Crickenberger, part-time Arboretum Gardener, and all of the landscape gardening students. These folks dedicated many long hours to make the tree planting event so special for Dr. Reichard. Everything is so beautiful! If you didn't get a chance to visit the Arboretum at the event held to honor Dr. Reichard, please take a moment to go see the tree and the beautiful area that's been created at the Arboretum.

We have had a few busy months! We celebrated fall break with a wonderful and informative Staff Development Day. A HUGE thanks to Eric Schmieder and the Staff Development Day Committee and Vic McCormick and the Social Committee for all of their hard work to make the day so successful.

We are so glad to have you here and we look forward to getting to know you. You are in for a real treat because the staff at Johnston Community College are among some of the friendliest I know. We strive to make this a great place to work and I can honestly say that the majority of us come to work with smiles on our faces each day. Congratulations on your new position as President of Johnston Community College, we are very excited!

Goodbye Dr. Reichard

We will miss him that's for sure and we couldn't let him leave without an appropriate farewell. We had so much fun singing and performing a skit in his honor - I think he enjoyed it too! So from all of us to you Dr. Reichard; congratulations on your retirement, you will be missed!

Congratulations Art Andrews!!!

Art Andrews, JCC employee since 1997 who serves the college as our Controller is currently in the nomination pool for Statewide Staff of the Year. Last December Art was nominated and won the Rudolph A. Howell & Son Outstanding Staff Person of the Year Award here at JCC. We are very proud of you Art - you certainly deserve this award. Best of luck!

Fun In The Sun

On June 4th the staff and faculty had a blast as they enjoyed a delicious lunch together. Our cooks prepared a great meal of hot dogs, hamburgers, and everyone brought side dishes that we enjoyed as well. Thanks everyone for making it a great day!

Penny Chicks win Penny Wars!

Sonia Rhodes & Crystal Netter accept the Penny Wars Trophy on behalf of all faculty administrative assistants for all of their hard work collecting pennies! Congratulations!!!

Penny War winners were the Penny Chicks AKA The Faculty Administrative Assistants. They won a trophy and pizza & dessert party. We decided to also honor the team with the most money raised with a pizza & dessert party and that would be the Penny Pinchers AKA the Business Office.

Our Easter Candy Fund Raiser was a great success! Raising $176, the sale went very well. Leslie Isenhour and her committee worked very hard to put the candy bags together. They sold out in no time! We even had a little assistance from the Easter Bunny.

JCC Staff had tons of fun as we celebrated our first ever Spirit Week! Departments competed from JCC's main campus to the Workforce Development Center. We had so much fun! Thanks Vic for the great idea of SPIRIT WEEK!

Spring 2009 Staff Development Day

Staff Development Day was held on Monday March 9th, 2009. Eric Schmieder and the Staff Development Day Committee did a wonderful job planning and hosting the day. Vic McCormick and the Social Committee kept us fed with a wonderful breakfast and lunch. There were door prizes galore and we especially enjoyed the presentation by Donna Shumate. Congratulations to Nancy Lewis; winner of the parking spot!
