Cupid Delivers

On February 13th, many of us were surprised with Valentine's goodies and a serenade from Cupid. Leslie Isenhour, Vice President of the Staff Association and Chair of our Fund Raising Committee, did a wonderful job with the Valentine's Day Fund Raiser. She and her committee worked many long hours to get sweet treats ready for JCC employees. Our cupid, Shaun Braswell, worked hard as well. Some of his song selections included "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison, and "At Last" by Etta James. Thank you Shaun for your willingness to support our fund raiser by being Cupid for the day! Happy New Year

I would like to welcome everyone back to the new year at JCC. To those of you who are new employees we would like to invite you to become a member of your Staff Association. Here's a little information about the association:

"The primary purposes of the Association are:
- to provide an avenue of communication with administration, faculty, and staff
- to encourage and promote personal development and job improvement of staff employees
- to serve as a forum whereby members may convey recommendations concerning working conditions, college policies, and other matters affecting them to the college administration
- to provide the development of unity and a sense of identity among the Association members as a community of peers
- to promote the objectives and general welfare of the college"

I would like to introduce you to your new Staff Executive Committee as well. Here they are:

Dues for the Staff Association are $10 per year or $1 per month. Amanda Parker is now our Membership Chair and she will be collecting dues. Anyone may attend the general meetings that are announced by e-mail, however you are encouraged to pay dues. What do dues pay for? They assist with the expenses of Staff Development Days held during fall break and spring break, they assist with socials held throughout the year, and other events sponsored by the Staff Association.

Your Staff Association works to serve you. We have a lot in store for you this year. Our first meeting will be held Thursday, February 26th at 2pm in the Tart Lobby. Please join us!

My term has ended...

I have just performed my last duty as the 2008 President of the Staff Association. I presented the Rudolph A. Howell and Son Outstanding Staff Person of the Year award to Art Andrews. Congratulations Art!

I must say this journey as President has been adventurous. I have enjoyed sitting on the many committees and in the many meetings as your representation. Thank you for your support during this year. I could not have done this without the support of the Executive Committee. I have privately thanked each one of them, but I would like to publicly thank them as well. They were a great group of ladies to work with. Thanks again for all that you did to help this Association get better and better. I'm looking forward to seeing Carrol take the reins and continue propelling us into the future.
